From the Preface: "The pages that follow are but a chronicle of my various wanderings on the north side of the Alaskan Range within the shadows of the great mountain, McKinley. It is one of the choice sections of that marvelous garden spot of the North American continent, Alaska. A large part of this country may be reached today without undue exertion, and it is my hope that those who read these pages may become sufficiently interested to go and see the wonders and beauties that await there."

Limited Edition. This vintage Derrydale Press volume is a limited edition in a run of 750 copies. This volume features a tissue guarded color frontispiece and numerous photographic plates by the author. The text includes an introduction by Robert Sterling Yard and is illustrated with paintings by Carl Rungius.

Blue publisher's cloth with stamped titles in gilt with decoration of a caribou head with decorative colored map endpapers. Bindings tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate handling wear. The front endpaper is torn and partially lost. The pages are clean with slight age toning. The folding map and plates are intact and all present.

Bindings very tight and square. Text clean, Minimal handling wear. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Dust Jacket in clear protective Mylar sleeve has light handling wear with small loss spine tips and some age toning to white of jacket , more-so on spine.

Blue cloth binding with black and purple stamping. White dust jacket replicates the binding design. Only flaw to note is a previous owner's stamp to the top of text block. The author was a former territorial governor.

The author a renowned geologist at Santa Clara University travelled the Aleutian Islands and scaled the Aghileen Pinnacles. Finding a 25 mile wide “moon crater” ten-foot brown bears, travelling in the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes; the first scientific recording of the birth of ice-burgs.
