Crichton, an accomplished novelist and filmmaker, here gives us autobiography. The first quarter of the book chronicles his gradual disillusionment with medical school and his decision not to practice medicine. His accounts of visits to remote places in Asia and Africa present a perspective on his personal life. Shuffled among these chapters are accounts of psychic experiences that include channeling, exorcism, and spoon-bending and end with a defense of "paranormal experience."

Crichton has had an interesting life, which he writes about in a crisp and disarmingly frank manner. His inner "travels" offer something for almost everyone. And then fueled by a powerful curiosity and the need to see, feel, and hear firsthand and close-up he records his own adventures, as compelling as those he created in his books and films, tracking wild animals in the jungles of Rwanda, climbing Kilimanjaro and Mayan pyramids, swimming amid sharks in Tahiti……

New York: Harry N. Abrams, 1994
 0810939754 / 9780810939752 Hardcover in Dust Jacket.
Architecture engages in a continual dialogue with its environment, and water is one of the basic elements of that dialogue. Now more than ever, water is featuring in the most advanced, challenging architectural designs, and this study presents an account of its resurgent importance.

Sites discussed range from the Trevi Fountain in Rome to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater house in Pennsylvania and the gleaming Tokyo Sea Life Park in Japan.

Charles Moore's text first addresses the symbolism of water as a design element, then examines specific applications in all kinds of structures and settings: fountains and waterfalls, rivers and canals, lakes and pools, oceans and islands. He also takes a look at basic design principles and environmental issues.

Documentary illustrations and plans accompany the text, and each section is complemented by a portfolio of colour pictures by photographer Jane Lidz, bringing the locations and ideas discussed to life.
