A very collectible copy whose only flaw is a bookplate and previous owner’s name on half-title and first page.

The bookplate is William Grayson Stetson's (1840 – 1903) a well-known financier and trustee of Boston University. Also his name on first blank page with date and on top of chapter 1.

Publisher’s brown cloth covered boards with stamped titles and decorations in bright gilt and black. Bindings tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Light minimal handling wear.

"Eothen" is a travel book about the Middle East and Holy Land, the other two cover the mountainous and Moslem areas of southern Russia. "Eothen" is attributed to Kinglake although his name is not present. All three books are somewhat scarce.

Half olive calf, marbled boards. No edition indicated. Bindings tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate handling wear. 144, 147 and 256 pages respectively. Hardback 16 mo (about 7 inches tall)

Schamyl: The Sultan, Warrior, and Prophet of the Caucasus. From the German of Wagner F. & Bodenstedt F.; Translated By Lascelles Wraxall. 1854. ----- Imam Shamil was an Avar political and religious leader of the Muslim tribes of the Northern Caucasus. He was a leader of anti-Russian resistance in the Caucasian War and was the third Imam of the Caucasian Imamate (1840–1859). ------Includes description of the land, culture and history.

The Russians of the South, Shirley Brooks, 1854. -------- Charles William Shirley Brooks was a journalist and novelist. Born in London, he began his career in a solicitor's office. Shortly afterwards he took to writing, and contributed to various periodicals. In 1851 he joined the staff of Punch. ------- A lively narrative of the people, conditions and circumstance of Southern Russia in the mid-19th century.

“Eothen: Or, Traces of Travel Brought Home from the East” is a travel book about the Middle East and Holy Land, the other two cover the mountainous and Moslem areas of southern Russia. "Eothen" is attributed to Kinglake although his name is not present. ------- "Eothen" is denominated a new edition but all are dated 1854 on title pages. The binding is contemporary with 1854. ------ Alexander William Kinglake was an English travel writer and historian. His first literary venture was Eothen; or Traces of travel brought home from the East a very popular work of Eastern travel, apparently first published anonymously, in which he described a journey he made about ten years earlier in Syria, Palestine and Egypt, Elliot Warburton said it evoked "the East itself in vital actual reality" and it was instantly successful.
