The Duenna was the third comedy by Sheridan performed at Covent Garden in 1775, preceded by The Rivals and St. Patrick's Day. With music by his father-in-law and brother-in-law, the Thomases Linley, the "comic opera The Duenna was represented at Covent Garden on 21 Nov. 1775 and on seventy-four other nights during the season, a success which was then unprecedented".
Introduction by Nigel Playfair and illustrated by George Sheringham with the designs for costumes and scenery used in the production at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith.
