"The author was a lifelong soldier and educator, at Harvard and the US Military Academy, who combined his profession with his interest in natural history. This is the account of a trip to the tropics to collect ornithological specimens in 1892. It is interestingly told, with many photographs and illustrations and with observations of the people as well. A good bibliography is given on Colombia and Curaçao."
