Original boards bound in the rear. Five spine bands with stamped gilt titles and date at bottom. Armorial bookplates of Mexborough. 1864-5 - Three volumes. All First Edition.

Bindings tight and square. Volume 1 has one rubbed corner and light wear at spine corners. Volume 2 minor handling. Volume 3 minor corner rubs and top and bottom raised spine band rubbed. Text is clean, light toning and occasional spotting.

Second Series and Third Series. 3 volumes. (8vo) 19x13.5 cm (7½x5¼") Essays written in the character of "Cornelius O'Dowd" and published anonymously. Charles James Lever (1806 - 1872) was an Irish novelist.

Trollope praised Lever's novels highly when he said that they were just like his conversation.
