These former library volumes display external wear, with light soiling and mild rubbing to the covers. The antique bookplate of The Wadsworth Library of Geneseo, New York is affixed to each front pastedown; library attachments can be seen on the rear endpapers.
Bound in half leather and textured green cloth, with raised bands and gilt-lettered spine labels. An antique paper label appears at the top of each spine cover. A small tear appears at the bottom edge of the spine cover of the second volume and have marbled edges and endpapers. First Edition / First Printing.
The front hinge of the first volume is starting. The binding of the second is sound. The first volume lacks its title page. The title page of the second is blind stamped, with the word Atheneum and a number in ink at the top of each. The pages exhibit occasional light foxing. 12mo; 19 cm.; 7.5 inches tall.

Along with general descriptions of Sweden, Denmark and Norway, Landor denotes a contrast between Scandinavia and the Continent. In his chapter Poetry and the Philosophy of Travel Landor's demonstrated that he is a product of the Enlightenment and of the Romantic Period. His point of departure is the Eighteeth Century idea that travel is not only a leisure activity, but the purpose is to improve the traveler. He is also critical of the Grand Tour Model. [Fjågesund]
