Condition. The bindings are tight and square with only a slight shelf lean. Text clean with light, even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear; extremities lightly rubbed. Interior bright, plates crisp, and all maps present and properly folded. A solid, collectible example of this important travel and natural history narrative.
Zoologist and explorer Henry Ogg Forbes recounts his wide-ranging expeditions through the Eastern Archipelago between 1878 and 1883, traversing Java, Sumatra, the Moluccas, Timor-Laut, Timor, and the remote Cocos-Keeling Islands. Blending scientific rigor with vivid travel narrative, Forbes documents new or little-studied species of plants and animals while also describing the daily life, material culture, and social organization of the Indigenous communities he encountered.
