Publisher's navy cloth with stamped gilt decorations on front, rear, and spine. Bindings tight and square. Top edge gilt. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate handling wear. Tissue-guards in place. A few plates have a hint of foxing on extremities.
Small 4to; 10.25 in. 26 cm; viii, 218 +  ad pp. 35 steel-engraved plates including frontispiece, two maps, and an additional illustrated title page, wood-engraved vignettes throughout.
The detailed illustrations were made by the author who was a British artist, best known for his numerous drawings rendered into steel engravings. Bartletts primary concern was to render "lively impressions of actual sights",
