Bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Minimal shelf handling wear with minor spotting on rear board. ------------ The author was a Stanford University Professor of Horticulture, his impressive collection of prose and poetry of the history and significance of the California poppy is both beautiful and informative. __________ The text is illustrated throughout with floriated initial caps, head and tail pieces in the Art Nouveau fashion. Period photographs, drawings and a tissue-guarded color frontispiece complete this tribute to the California Poppy. The binding design of two poppy motifs in gold is by T. V. H. Bull. ------ All of the art decorations are attributed and include Florence Lundborg (member of the San Francisco group known as "Les Jeunes"), Marion Taverner, Arthur F Mathews (father of the Arts and Craft Movement). Albertine Randall Wheelan (elves) and Grace Irving. Most of the poetry and prose articles have the authors signatures in facsimile.
