The folding maps are of the watershed between Guiana and the Amazon and of the Everglade region of Florida. The illustrations include views, Indian weapons, living conditions, river scenes, plant life.


The author was a liberal politician and an adventurous explorer. This volume covers his travels in Surinam, the Orinoco, Florida and the Caribbean with much on Jamaica.
