The author tells the amusing and informative story of a most original trip across the Continent which he took with three companions. picking up a Citroen in Paris, they drove through France and Spain.

At La Toja, where the Bay of Biscay merges with the Atlantic Ocean, they began their trip in earnest the announced goal being to traverse the mountains of Europe from North-western Spain to Southern Yugoslavia.

They motored through the Spanish Pyrenees, crossed France over The Massif Central, and proceeded through the Italian Alps and the Dolomites into Yugoslavia.

There they paralleled the coast through the mountains, visiting Yugoslavia's ancient cities and following its rugged roads, suspended between the mountain and the sea.
