Good Things to Eat for Your Thanksgiving, E. E. Gray Co. Grocery Handbill
New England: E. E. Gray Co, c1920s.
A well-preserved example of early twentieth-century American grocery advertising, notable for its typography, pricing data, and seasonal focus. Issued by E. E. Gray Co., promoted as ‘New England’s Oldest Food Chain Stores’, this single-sheet Thanksgiving handbill lists holiday staples and period prices including mince meat, sweet cider, walnuts, plum pudding, raisins, and branded pantry goods.
Such material was produced for short-term use and routinely discarded, making intact examples increasingly uncommon.
Single-sheet printed handbill, no binding. Printed in green on cream stock. Measures approximately 6.5 by 12.5 inches. Even age toning throughout, with original fold lines from mailing. Ink stamp of a local store at the foot, providing period retail context. Carefully handled, structurally sound, and fully legible.
New England, E. E. Gray Co., circa 1920s. Likely pre-1931 based on pricing format and branding.
A visually strong display piece, crisp green ink, bold headline, and dense price list typography, ideal for framing, kitchen decor, or Americana walls, a clean example of early chain store advertising with real period price data.
