The author, a lifelong resident of California, predominantly in the Salinas Valley, sets her "factual novel" within this familiar backdrop. "The Bracero" chronicles Diego's journey from his southern Mexican hometown to the United States and back, traversing the expanse of Mexico amid numerous trials.
