The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even age-toning. Minimal shelf handling wear with an address label on the inside of the front cover, a small tear to the top of the front and a faint crease on the rear cover.
The publication coincides with the Northwest Territory Celebration and contains the story pf westward migration, Burr’s conspiracy, the city’s role as an agricultural, dairy, paper making center. [the paper used in the books was locally made] and the Greek Revival architecture.
The book follows the pattern of most guides.
Dard Hunter is credited with some of the drawings, probably the chapter headings.
Background Information:
During the Great Depression of the 1930s thousands of writers were hired by the Works Project Administration to create hundreds of guidebooks on all of the states in the U.S. These volumes that were produced became known as the American Guide Series. This series has been described as the biggest, fastest and most original research job in the history of the world.
