Thackeray created the illustrations for 'The Rose and the Ring' during Christmas of 1853, crafting a mock-heroic and humorous fairy tale around them. The story revolves around a magic rose and ring, capable of bestowing beauty upon their owners.
It follows Prince Giglio's adventures after being ousted from the throne by his uncle, detailing his pursuit of Princess Angelica's hand, later shifting to her maid Betsinda.
Both delightful to read and visually captivating, it remains a charming literary and artistic work. [Adapted from reviews]
