The author Wilhelm Busch (1832–1908) was a German humorist, poet, and illustrator best known for Max und Moritz, a satirical, illustrated story written in rhyming couplets.
 

First published in 1865, it tells the mischievous adventures of two boys, Max and Moritz, who play pranks on various townspeople, often with darkly humorous consequences. 


The work is considered a forerunner to modern comic strips and remains a classic of German literature.
