Society of Agriculture and Horticulture of Westchester County New York – Judge’s Ribbon Circa 1870–1890
Retains original sheen with minor toning and frayed lower edge from handling. Light vertical crease from long storage in protective sleeve. No tears or losses; printing sharp and legible. Lower corner folded back to the rear - present, could be corrected.
Original judge’s ribbon issued for the Westchester County Society of Agriculture and Horticulture, used to identify fair or exhibition judges during competition events. Such ribbons were worn pinned at the chest and typically discarded after use, making surviving examples uncommon. The detailed engraving and bold blue print on cream silk provide a fine example of period design celebrating rural advancement and civic pride.
The Westchester County Society of Agriculture and Horticulture, active during the latter half of the 19th century, held exhibitions promoting agricultural education, livestock improvement, and domestic industry. Judge’s ribbons were issued for specific roles—rarely preserved outside institutional archives.
