Emanuel Bowen (1694-1767) was renowned for producing some of the most informative maps of the Georgian era. Unlike many of his contemporaries who left open spaces on their maps, Bowen had a habit of filling voids with historical and topographical footnotes, making his work a rich resource for researchers.
Although Bowen died in 1767, his plates remained in high demand and were frequently updated and reissued by publishers like Laurie & Whittle well into the 1790s.
